Citizen TV Swahili news anchor and editor, Mwanahamisi Hamadi, has officially joined the race for the Likoni parliamentary seat in the 2027 General election.

Hamadi, who recently declared her interest publicly, said residents of Likoni deserve better and inclusive services. She noted that her decision was informed by persistent calls from locals who have long yearned for change.

“Likoni residents deserve clean and reliable water supply, well-equipped health facilities with qualified staff, improved infrastructure, and continuous engagement with communities, especially youth and women, to empower them economically,” she said.

Hamadi emphasized youth empowerment as a key pillar of her agenda.

“If we economically empower the youth, we will tame insecurity in our area. If we value education and ensure our children stay in school while monitoring their progress, we will build a stable generation away from societal evils,” she stated.

She urged Likoni residents to support her bid, promising inclusive leadership.

“My leadership will be an all-inclusive. We need to walk and work together if we want to change our lives. Gone are the days when leaders dictated to their electorates what needed to be done,” she told residents.

The journalist further appealed to the youth to reject what she termed as “politics of deceit,” which she said has left many in poverty without tangible development. She also pledged to prioritize women’s empowerment.

“To my Likoni women, working with you remains my priority. Your voices in the empowerment journey matter to me,” she said.

Hamadi is seeking to unseat Mishi Mboko, who is serving her second term as Likoni MP and was also Mombasa’s first Woman Representative.

She now joins a growing list of journalists crossing over into politics. Her colleague Lulu Hassan is reportedly eyeing the Mvita parliamentary seat, while Lulu’s husband, Rashid Abdalla, is rumored to be considering a political bid in Kwale County, although he has remained tight-lipped about his plans.
