The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has asked Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja to name all interdicted police officers over the mysterious death of popular X influencer, Albert Ojwang’.

In a press briefing on Monday, LSK president Faith Odhiambo asked IG Kanja to reveal the names of the officers interdicted, including those who moved Ojwang’ from Homa Bay county to Nairobi.

Earlier on Monday, in a series of conflicting statements from the police, IG Kanja said he has immediately interdicted officers manning the Central Police Station at the time of Ojwang’s booking, where he was found “critically injured” in the police cell.

Odhiambo, further noted that the details given on the mysterious death of Ojwang’ cannot sufficiently resolve the matter.

“Where are the names of the particular officers interdicted? Why hide them? As Kenyans we want to know who picked Ojwang’, are they part of those interdicted? We want to know the names of those interdicted,” said Odhiambo.

She reiterated that Kenyans will not be calmed down with these empty PR gimmicks.

“The treatment of Mr. Albert Onjwang’ is a betrayal against him and against Kenyans. This cannot be wished away as an isolated incident because it is illustrative of deeper systematic weaknesses within the National Police Service,” added the LSK President.

Odhiambo reiterated that Kenya has no room for extra-judicial killings and criminal conduct by the police.

Protests

Meanwhile, human rights defenders protested on Monday demanding clear answers from IG Douglas Kanja over the death of Ojwang’

The activists stated that the police are only killing innocent Kenyans instead of protesting them.

Sentiments echoed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who demanded an immediate resignation of Kenya Police Service Deputy Inspector General Eliud Langat.

“I wonder what is real going on in our country. How many young Kenyans are to die during William Ruto’s leadership?” posed Gachagua.

Ojwang’ was arrested following a defamation complaint by Deputy Inspector General, Kenya Police Service (DIG) Eliud Lagat.

Government pathologists were set to conduct an autopsy on Albert Ojwang’s body on Monday June 9, in the afternoon.
