Mombasa County has warned developers against dumping construction materials on roads and pathways, citing safety and infrastructure risks. Offenders face permit revocation, fines, and prosecution.

Mombasa, Oct. 28, 2025 — The County Government of Mombasa has issued a stern warning against the illegal dumping of construction materials on roads, road reserves, and pedestrian pathways.

In a public notice, the Department of Lands, Urban Planning, Housing, and Serikali Mtaani directed all developers, contractors, and individuals involved in construction to ensure materials are handled strictly within the boundaries of their respective sites.

The department noted that improper dumping obstructs pedestrian and vehicular movement, clogs drainage systems, and damages critical infrastructure such as fiber cables and service lines.

CECM Mohammed Hussein stated that any party found violating the directive will face immediate revocation of development permits, surcharges for repairs, and possible prosecution under existing laws.

Developers currently contravening the directive have been given a seven-day notice to remove dumped materials and restore affected areas.

“We urge full compliance in the interest of public safety, infrastructure integrity, and orderly urban development,” said Hussein.
