Mombasa, Oct. 28, 2025 — All 12 tourists on board a Mombasa Air light aircraft were killed early Tuesday morning after it crashed in Kwale County.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed that the aircraft, a Cessna Caravan registration number 5Y-CCA, went down at Vyongwani area of Tsimba in Kwale County shortly after takeoff from Diani Airstrip. It was en route to Kichwa Tembo in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
According to Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno, all the passengers were tourists, and eight of them were from the same family. However, police are yet to establish their nationalities.
“We cannot immediately confirm their nationality. The relevant agencies are working to gather more information,” said Nuno.
KCAA Director General Emile N. Arao said government agencies have been dispatched to the crash site to investigate the cause of the accident and assess the situation.
Heavy rainfall in the area has hindered recovery efforts, with the wreckage still at the scene as security and aviation teams continue operations.
Authorities have urged patience as identification and communication with families of the victims continue.
