Former Kisauni MP and Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Ali Mbogo has urged residents to move away from party-based politics and elect leaders based on performance and integrity. Mbogo said Mombasa has lagged behind due to blind party loyalty and called on the youth to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election to drive meaningful change.

Mombasa, Oct. 28, 2025 — Former Kisauni MP and Mombasa gubernatorial hopeful Ali Mbogo has urged Mombasa residents to abandon party-based voting and instead vet candidates based on their integrity and development record.

Mbogo said that the county’s overreliance on party politics has denied residents the chance to experience transformative, people-centered leadership.

According to him, Mombasa and Kilifi counties have stagnated due to what he termed as “non-performing leaders” who were elected primarily through party influence rather than merit.

“In Mombasa, only Nyali people have shown serious vetting of politicians. Mohammed Ali was first elected as an independent candidate in 2017, and in 2022 he joined UDA and was re-elected. That paints a different political picture in Nyali,” Mbogo noted.

He accused the current county leadership of presiding over a government marred by graft, ethnicity, and mismanagement of public resources.

Mbogo cited Kwale, Lamu, Tana River, and Taita Taveta as examples of counties that have embraced political change and prioritized performance over party loyalty.

“Let’s look at Kwale County — the first governor, Salim Mvurya, was elected on an ODM ticket in 2013, later joined Jubilee, and in 2022 Fatuma Achani was elected under UDA. Those voters chose leaders, not choir masters in political parties,” he said.

The former legislator also appealed to young people in Mombasa to register as voters and take an active role in shaping leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The IEBC is conducting continuous voter registration. The youth should seize this opportunity to elect their own leaders from ward level upward and bring about real change,” he added.
