Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fierce political offensive against President William Ruto, calling on Kenyans to reject his re-election bid in 2027 and “liberate the country from deceit, discrimination, and failed leadership.”

Addressing the Wiper Party delegates conference at Uhuru park in Nairobi on Saturday, the DCP Party leader accused the President of betraying the nation’s trust, presiding over economic collapse, human rights violations, and runaway corruption.

In one of his most blistering public attacks since falling out with Ruto, Gachagua said the Head of State had “lost moral authority to lead,” accusing him of ordering the killing of innocent youth during the 2024–2025 Gen-Z protests and turning government machinery against ordinary citizens.

“Ruto has become the master of lies — a man who promised unity but delivered oppression. He has failed the test of leadership and must be sent home in 2027,” Gachagua declared to loud applause.

The former Deputy President said Kenyans were suffering under harsh economic conditions, with soaring taxes, unemployment, and a weakened shilling, while State House focused on early 2027 campaigns instead of addressing the cost-of-living crisis.

“Instead of fixing the economy, Ruto is busy buying loyalty and using public resources to campaign for a second term,” he said. “We must not allow him to deceive Kenyans twice.”

The former DP earlier faulted Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, for joining the pro-Ruto Jubilee faction, accusing him of “abandoning his reformist ideals for political comfort.” However, Matiangi was present in today’s Wiper Party National Delegates Conference held in Nairobi.

Gachagua also hit out at Ruto’s renewed political alliance with former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, describing it as “an unholy marriage of convenience meant to entrench elite interests at the expense of ordinary citizens.”

He questioned Ruto’s sincerity in rebuilding bridges with old political rivals while sidelining those who helped him rise to power, adding that the move “exposed a president driven by survival, not service.”

Political observers view Gachagua’s fiery remarks as part of a calculated effort to position himself as the centerpiece of a new anti-Ruto coalition, possibly drawing support from disillusioned Kenya Kwanza allies and sections of the opposition.

The DCP, still in its formative stages, is quietly gaining traction across parts of the Mount Kenya region, which remains crucial to the 2027 political arithmetic. Gachagua is believed to be seeking to reclaim his influence by rallying a grassroots rebellion against what he calls “Ruto’s politics of betrayal and intimidation.”

As Kenya edges closer to the next general election, the battle lines are becoming clearer: Ruto tightening his grip on power through alliances, and Gachagua positioning himself as the voice of resistance.

“This country belongs to all of us,” Gachagua said. “The era of fear and manipulation is over. We will reclaim our democracy, our dignity, and our future.”

The coming months are likely to define whether Gachagua’s defiance will evolve into a formidable political force — or become another casualty in Kenya’s high-stakes succession game.
