Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi has urged Mombasa County Government to sincerely implement various development projects it initiated in Changamwe Constituency.
Mwinyi, said most of the projects initiated by Mombasa County Government have since stalled without any proper reasons being issued to the anticipating residents.
Speaking after inspecting various development projects in his Changamwe Constituency, Mwinyi singled out a section of the development projects under the Mombasa County government that have stalled despite the County government having assured residents of their fully implementation and completion.
“We should not beg for development from Mombasa County Government. This is not a political campaign course but its mandate to initiate, implement and complete all the development projects it commenced to the residents,” noted Mwinyi.
Accompanied by Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki and the entire Mombasa County Government Delivery Unit, Mwinyi inspected Changamwe Fire and disaster preparedness unit, Magongo, Bokole, Chaani and Portreitz hospitals.
The team further inspected Chaani public market, Chaani and Kwahola Early Child Development Education (ECDE) projects and Bomu sports ground, all projects remain incomplete.
Demands
“As taxpayers and Changamwe residents, we clearly understand that all these projects are funded by taxpayer’s money. We are not in a campaign trail. What we are asking is for the County Government of Mombasa to fully implement all development projects it started in these areas,” he added.
He urged Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir to remain on course and ensure he delivers his promises to Mombasa residents.
“We have inspected the ongoing works at The Changamwe Sports Complex in Changamwe Ward. The facility will comprise of a multipurpose hall, changing rooms, basketball court, terraces, netball pitch and volleyball pitches. we reiterate to the Governor that we want all these projects completed on time and if there are any delays, let the public know and understand the cause of such delays,” he added.
The Legislature noted that there has been laxity in ensuring the development projects are accomplished, further adding that the time for using government funded projects to earn political mileage were over.
“Mombasa County Government is fully mandated to ensure that there is no discrimination in the implementation of government projects. Politics aside work must be done and done properly so that we as Changamwe residents get the services we need from our County government,” he noted.
Towards the end of last year, Changamwe Subcounty witnessed a serious of fire incidents that rendered several families homeless. However, the only fire engine meant to fight such infernos has been malfunctioning.
