Mombasa, Kenya, Oct’ 29, 2025 – The coastal city is mourning the sudden death of celebrated TikToker and businesswoman Mariam Antonet Lwande, popularly known as Digidaa 001, who passed away early Wednesday morning after a short illness.
Digidaa, who was live on TikTok on Tuesday night preparing chapati, coconut beans, and meat for her family while interacting cheerfully with her followers, died around 8 a.m. at her home in Tudor, Mombasa.
She was the proprietor of a Swahili restaurant in Tudor, known for its authentic coastal delicacies that had become a favorite among locals, politicians and tourists alike.
Beyond her online influence, Digidaa was also known for her active involvement in local politics, working closely with former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and the current county boss Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir.
A staunch ODM Party supporter, her presence was often felt at major political functions, including those led by the late Raila Odinga. She was among those who paid heartfelt tribute during the late leader’s burial in Bondo.
According to Islamic rites, Digidaa will be laid to rest at 4 p.m. today in Mombasa.
Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans and friends expressing shock and sadness.
“Innalillahi wainna ilayhi rajiun. May Allah forgive her shortcomings, grant her Jannah, and give her family and friends sabr during this difficult time,” Former KTN entertainment presenter Jamal Gaddafi wrote.
“Imagine, she was live last night cooking and chatting with fans, and now she’s gone this morning. Dunia tunapita,” another added.
Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir led tributes, describing her as one of Mombasa’s most beloved personalities.
“We have lost one of Mombasa’s brightest and most beloved personalities. Mariam Antonet Lwande, fondly known to many as Digida, brought laughter, light, and authenticity to our social circles and online spaces,” Governor Nassir said.
“On behalf of the County Government and the people of Mombasa, I extend heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire creative community. The County Government has made the decision to offset her hospital bills. We will stand with the family during this trying time. Indeed, to The Almighty we belong and to Him we shall return.”
May her soul rest in peace.
