Kenyan politician and renowned human rights defender and Senior counsel Martha Karua has demanded actions against Tanzanian Authorities after it emerged that Tanzania’s Lawyer and Human rights activist Agatha Atuhaire was sexually abused by the Tanzanian police.
Karua demanded from President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the actions taken against police officers who were acting directly from her command leading to the brutality meted on Ms Atuhaire and Kenyan Activist Boniface Mwangi.
The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Leader expression concerns over the disintegrating of democracy in Tanzania, further noting the humiliation of activists who went to Tanzania following an official invite from the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) will not be let go.
The activists were also on a follow up of Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu’s treason case.
“To President Samia Suluhu Hassan, how far have you gone in the investigation where Ugandan activist Agatha Atuhaire was sexually assaulted by ACP Mafwele of Tanpol?” Posed Karua on her X account.
Karua further stated that as human rights defenders they will not back down easily and will fight for justice to the core.
“I have worked with alot of African countries and none of those countries have ever treated me how Samia Suluhu has treated me, and if she thinks I am just going to back down she is insane,” noted Karuae.
According to Kenyan vocal activist Boniface Mwangi, together with Atuhaire they were striped naked and were blindfolded during the entire ordeal.
“Agatha and I were stripped naked. They later told us to go to the bathroom and take a shower,” noted a frail Mwangi who was dumped at the Lungalunga border recently by Tanzania Authorities.
