The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will field a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election, Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has declared.

Speaking during an ODM forum in Mombasa, Sifuna said the party remains the strongest political outfit in the country and should neither merge with nor support its rivals.

“Personally, I am not joining the UDA government despite being ODM Secretary General. My colleagues in the ODM party are advancing President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza agenda. I am not aware of any working relationship or political merger between ODM and UDA. That remains my stand,” he said.

The Nairobi Senator, who has in recent months worked closely with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino under the One Kenya Alliance, stressed that ODM would not align itself with the ruling coalition.

“You are telling us to advance the agenda of corruption, extra-judicial killings, heavy taxation, and ethnicity in employment — things that are against the constitution? We are against the Kenya Kwanza leadership,” Sifuna added.

However, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed dismissed Sifuna’s remarks, accusing him of being detached from ODM’s ongoing political engagements.

“The ODM Secretary General has said he is unaware of President William Ruto and our party leader Raila Odinga’s partnership. Yes, he is not aware because nowadays he walks around with people like Gothunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba. How will he know about our party politics and progress?” Junet posed.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet maintained that ODM will work with the Kenya Kwanza government to realise its agenda of uniting Kenyans.

His sentiments were echoed by Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho, who signaled that ODM leaders would back President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

The mixed signals expose widening cracks within ODM, which has long been led by Raila Odinga, who has yet to declare his 2027 plans.
