The media has been challenged to fully embrace the ever evolving technology so that it remains afloat amid challenges surrounding the media sector in the country.
In a message to both media owners and practitioners during commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, an International day marked every 3rd of May each year, Media Council of Kenya Program Manager and Director Media training and Development, Victor Bwire noted that technology has enabled media professions to enjoy various opportunities that comes with it.
He singled out the Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one of the aspect that has enabled media professionals to conduct research, learn about various opportunities globally and as well, sell their content locally and abroad.
According to Mr Bwire, media professionals should come up with ways to overcome the challenges facing the sector at the moment.
“The biggest challenge facing us in the media sector is the decline in revenue which has sent some journalists going for month without pay. We should all unite and employ ways to overcome these challenges,” said Mr Bwire.
He further revealed that MCK is continuously working with players in the media industry so as to ensure the media remains afloat and journalists work in conducive environment.
“Let’s not be tied up on the negative side or misusing of the technology but always leverage on the numerous opportunities that comes with it so that we benefit from the ever evolving technology,” said Bwire.
Meanwhile, the MCK official says the government is working on taming those misusing the technology space so as to ensure the online space remains safe for all.
