Police have arrested five suspected criminals around Ng’ombeni area along the Kwale-Mombasa counties border.
The area has since posed a major hideout for criminal gangs operating in Likoni, Mombasa County and Waa and Ng’ombeni areas of Kwale County.
The multi-agency team aims at flashing out criminal gangs that have caused locals sleepless nights.
The five, Said Salim Mwalole, Yahya Mwalimu Mohamed alias Kirungi, Juma Hamisi Makusanya alias Dush, Said Mohamed and Mohamed Ali alias Modi were arrested in a joint operation that involved Ng’ombeni and Likoni police officers.
This has been triggered by endless violent crimes reported along the Dongo kundu bypass by motorists and other road users.
“Following intelligence reports gathered from other suspects who had been arrested earlier for burglary, security officers extended the operation to Barabara ya Mchanga area where another suspect Evans Ochieng was also flashed out from his hideout and is currently under police custody,” read part of the police statement.
Ochieng, with his accomplices Edward Omondi and Protus John Rioba, are accused of burglary where they recently broke into a shop at Makika area in Shonda and made away with assorted goods and other valuables.
The suspects being detained at the Inuka police station will be arraigned in court on Monday to face robbery with violence charges.
