Former Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo has acknowledged the ongoing political formation in the county, however he said that the political decision solely remains with him.
Mbogo noted that having some serious political deliberations in a bid to come up with a political affiliation, strategy or formation in preparation for 2027 general elections is noble, however, such political formations must be pegged on people’s needs.
“There are ongoing political discussions of a possible political formation in Mombasa in readiness for the 2027 general elections, this is a very noble political course, However in whose interests are such political affiliations?” posed Mbogo.
He said such discussions should be pegged on the development agenda and ways of face-lifting the lives of Mombasa dwellers.
“If such political discussions are meant for power sharing after the 2027 general election and have nothing to do with the needs of locals, please count me out of such political affiliations,” the politician said during a homecoming event of UDA Junda Ward MCA, Sylvester Kai.
The LAPSSET Board Chairperson noted that Mombasa residents are currently in need of improved basic services, bursaries for needy students, land issues solved, be economically empowered among other critical issues, which politically leaders should be at the moment not only discussing with locals but also fully implementing them.
“We already have Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani that is mandated to unite all the six coastal counties and more so focus on developing the region. Jumuiya has a very critical mandate to uplift the living standards of the Coastal people if it fails then we will not forgive it,” he added.
Among those who attended the event were EALA Legislature, Hassan Omar Hassan, Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri, Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki among other mombasa county politicians.
Hassan, who is also the UDA Vice Chairperson and Mr Khatri have shown interest in toppling the current Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir come 2027 polls.
“I am a politician who can hunt for my own votes, same applies to Hassan and Khatri. So I am ready to battle for Mombasa gubernatorial seat and there is no turning back,” reiterated Mbogo.
