Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Ali Mbogo has renewed his attack on Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, urging residents to deny him a second term in 2027.

Mbogo, a former Kisauni MP, accused Nassir of presiding over what he described as the “worst leadership since devolution,” citing acute water shortages, poor health services, a hostile business environment, and neglected infrastructure.

“He has done totally nothing in the past three years of his leadership and he should be handed a single five-year term,” Mbogo told women’s groups from Kashani and Bamburi in Kisauni Constituency.

Mbogo further criticised the governor for focusing on national politics at the expense of local service delivery. “We have been seeing him criss-crossing the country drumming support for ODM political supremacy, while his own house is collapsing. Do we need such a leader in the future?” he posed.

He also took issue with the state of the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH), saying even the Speaker of the County Assembly, Aharub Khatri, had admitted that services there had become more expensive than in private facilities.

“The health sector in the county has been handled haphazardly. A leader who cannot advance the health needs of his electorates has no business remaining in leadership,” Mbogo said.

The politician accused Members of the County Assembly of shielding the governor instead of holding him accountable. He urged residents to “change their voting pattern and send home leaders who forget their mandates.”

“It’s only in Mombasa, the second city in the country, where locals are buying unsafe water from cart operators at exorbitant prices. Let us join our hands in bringing the transformative change we have all been yearning for,” he said.

Mbogo vowed to run for governor in 2027, promising inclusive leadership, better healthcare, improved education, and opportunities for women and youth.
