Activist Boniface Mwangi has been charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.
On Saturday, detectives arrested Mwangi for allegedly facilitating terror during the June 25, 2025 demonstrations in commemoration of the victims of June, 2024 anti-finance bill protests.
DCI alleged that after searching his office in Nairobi’s Hurlingham area, they found two unused tear gas canisters and a single blank round of ammunition.
They further stated that, Mwangi, used the ammunition to cause public disorder and fear.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the activists facilitated terrorist acts and unlawful possession of ammunition.
During his arraignment at the Kahawa law courts on Monday, the charge sheet indicated Mwangi was arrested after being found with three teargas cannisters.
Mwangi did not face any terrorism charges but instead the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) claimed that they found Mwangi with ammunition without a valid firearm certificate.
Mwangi pleaded not guilty to both charges before Principal Magistrate Gideon Kiage who released him on a Ksh.1 million surety bond.
