ODM has reaffirmed its place in the broad-based government until 2027, vowing to uphold the late Raila Odinga’s legacy of unity and democratic ideals. Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dismissed reports of divisions within the party, saying ODM remains united and focused on safeguarding national stability and internal democracy.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct’ 27, 2025- The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reaffirmed its commitment to remain part of the broad-based government until 2027, dismissing reports of internal divisions within the party.

Speaking after a Central Management Committee meeting in Nairobi, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the party would continue to uphold the late Raila Odinga’s call for unity and partnership for national stability.

“We reiterate the commitment of the Party to the broad-based government until 2027, a relationship guided by the ten-point agenda entered into for the sake of peace and stability of the country,” Sifuna said.

He dismissed claims of disunity, insisting that the party remains united and focused on championing the aspirations of ordinary Kenyans. “The struggle for good governance, greater freedoms, and wider democratic space is a lifelong undertaking,” he added.

The meeting marked ODM’s first high-level session since Odinga’s passing, with party leaders pledging to safeguard his legacy and the values he stood for. Sifuna said it was ODM’s “moral duty” to continue advancing the ideals that defined Odinga’s political career.

The renewed call for unity comes amid speculation of a growing rift within ODM, with a youthful faction led by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino reportedly angling for greater influence and leadership roles ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Last week, the National Executive Council (NEC) appointed Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga as the interim party leader following Odinga’s death. The move was intended to preserve the Odinga family’s symbolic leadership and guide the party through a delicate transition period.

According to the NEC, Oburu will oversee consultations on the party’s reorganization, its engagement with the Kenya Kwanza administration, and preparations for ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations slated for next month in Mombasa.

As the party navigates this critical transition, Sifuna emphasized that ODM’s focus remains on strengthening internal democracy and protecting Odinga’s legacy in readiness for the next electoral cycle.
