Malindi, Kilifi County, Sept’ 29, 2025 – Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has suffered a setback in the Magarini by-elections after its candidate, Hon. Furaha Chengo Ngumbao, announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.
In a letter dated September 29, 2025, and copied to the party’s Chairperson, the Registrar of Political Parties, and media houses, Ngumbao cited lack of support, inefficiencies, and poor communication within the party’s leadership as reasons for his decision.
“I can no longer continue in a role where my efforts are undermined by systemic inefficiencies and a lack of support from key party officials,” Ngumbao stated, adding that his experience with the National Elections Board and the Secretary-General had been “profoundly disappointing.”
Ngumbao accused the party of failing to provide clear directives to aspirants, marginalizing National Executive Committee members, and eroding confidence in the party’s ability to function effectively.
“These issues have not only hindered my work but also compromised my ability to serve my supporters effectively,” he noted.
His resignation comes at a crucial time as parties intensify preparations for the Magarini by-elections, setting the stage for possible realignments in the Kilifi political scene.
The by-election was triggered after the Magarini parliamentary seat fell vacant, and DCP had fronted Ngumbao as its candidate. His exit leaves the party without a flagbearer, with uncertainty on whether they will field a replacement.
Ngumbao expressed gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunity to serve but stressed the need for reforms to restore transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in DCP.
