LG Electronics and Opalnet Ltd have convened industry players in Nairobi to strengthen Kenya’s growing commercial laundry sector, which has seen demand rise by 25% over the past three years.
The seminar, held on August 29, brought together 60 entrepreneurs, professionals, and stakeholders to explore modern technologies, operational strategies, and revenue-boosting techniques for commercial laundries.
Data from Opalnet Ltd, the leading distributor of LG products, indicates that urbanisation, increasing internet penetration, and wider electricity access have been key drivers of growth. “Commercial laundry services are today an essential solution in urban Kenya. Through this seminar, we equipped operators with knowledge and technology that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ultimately deliver better service to customers,” said KH Jeong, LG’s Home Solutions Product Director for East Africa.
According to the seminar’s insights, a single eight-machine laundromat in Nairobi can generate between KES 250,000 and KES 400,000 per month, with investors recouping initial costs within 12–18 months, depending on location and foot traffic.
LG, a global leader in home and commercial appliances, showcased its high-performance, energy-efficient washers and dryers, designed to help businesses cut costs and increase throughput. The machines feature energy-saving Inverter Direct Drive motors, TurboWash™ cycles, and smart diagnostics, with a lifespan exceeding ten years.
Brian Kitui, Opalnet’s B2B Business CEO, emphasized the company’s role in supporting local entrepreneurs. “We work closely with LG in delivering equipment and services that allow investors to maximise returns while maintaining world-class standards,” he said.
The seminar also included case studies from successful laundromats, covering topics such as maintenance, energy management, and digital payment integration, aligning with Kenya’s mobile-first economy.
As urban lifestyles and commercial sectors expand, both companies hope the seminar will spur further growth and profitability in Kenya’s commercial laundry industry.
