Traffic disruption were witnessed between Changamwe round-about and Makupa bridge after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) started the planned road works and construction of drainage systems along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
According to a statement issued by KeNHA, the traffic flow along the gateway to Mombasa Island and the Northern part of the Coast region, a section of the road will be closed to pave way for the construction works.
The effects of the construction works are already being felt as police, traffic marshalls and KeNHA officials are planning on how they can best control traffic to avert snarl-ups especially from Monday morning.
KeNHA said the Makupa bridge -Changamwe Interchange drainage construction works begins Sunday, 17, 24, will last for about 15 days, and normalcy is expected to return by December, 1, 2024.
“The road works and drainage construction will yield a seamless road connectivity between Makupa bridge and Changamwe round-about interchange,” said KeNHA Director General Engineer Kungu Ndung’u
Ndung’u urged motorists to observe the laid down traffic guidelines so that they ease traffic flow in the segmented highway.
The drainage construction works has been necessitated by the last rains where bigger section of the road was flooded.
It emerged that the floods were highly caused by poor drainage systems in between Makupa bridge and Changamwe interchange.
