
Multi-talented journalist Zubeda Koome has left her fans guessing her next moove after announcing her exit at the Standard Group owned KTN.
Koome has called the Mombasa road based media house home for the last 18 years, and her official statement informing her fans that she was exiting KTN has left even her colleagues guessing her next move.
She did not immediately reveal where was her landing site, but thanked the entire Standard Group for her steadfast growth from an intern to a News editor.
“After 18 incredible years at Standard Group PLC, a chapter that has shaped my journey as a journalist, news anchor, and editor, I am stepping into a new season,” she stated.
Koome has been the lover of Swahili language since she stepped inside the Standard Group PLC back in 2007 and her first assignment was covering the controversial 2007 Kenya’s general election.
“These years have been filled with lessons, growth, challenges, and friendships I will forever treasure. I am deeply grateful to colleagues, mentors, and friends who have walked this path with me,” she further discharged.
Though she has assured her followers that she will soon inform them of her next station. She assured them she will be discharging her duties at the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) as the President of the Editors forum.
“While I close this chapter, my commitment to journalism and to serving our fraternity through the Kenya Editors Guild remains stronger than ever. The story continues, and together, we will keep shaping the future of media. Here’s to new beginnings, to resilience, and to purpose,” she added.
Koome, joined KTN in 2007 saw the birth of KTN News and together her co-anchor Mary Kilobi they raised the bar high in the editorial department of the national television station.
Koome was formally employed by the company in 2009 and through her editorial journey, she has hosted local shows among them Jukwaa la KTN, Kioo cha Hoja, Dira ya wiki and KTN Leo news program. She also hosted various current affairs show dissecting the devolution aspect.
She was in May, 2023 elected as the first female Kenya’s Editors Guild (KEG) President, a seat that she retained in May, 2025 after a fierce battle with her colleague in the TV News editing and anchoring Yvonne Okwara, who also hosts the News Gang as well as the Explainer show on Citizen TV.
