Lugari, Kakamega County, Sept 26, 2025 – National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged the Luhya community to consolidate their support behind President William Ruto’s administration as the country heads towards the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a Women Empowerment Program hosted by Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Wetang’ula said the community must “remain united in support of President Ruto’s government, which prioritizes the best interests of this country.”

He cited ongoing projects in the region under Kenya Kwanza, including the tarmacking of the Musikoma–Munganzi and Turbo–Naitiri–Sikhendu–Endebese roads, the upgrading of Masinde Muliro Stadium, revival of sugar factories, and expanded power connectivity. He further noted that the government has employed the highest number of teachers in Kenya’s history.

“Unity of purpose has no boundaries. Let us foster friendships with each other and with all other leaders across the country,” Wetang’ula said, stressing the importance of women’s empowerment and civic education to boost voter registration in Western Kenya.

The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to work closely with Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya to strengthen regional influence in government.

Other leaders present, including Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, MPs Didmus Barasa, Kakai Bisau, John Makali, John Waluke, Emmanuel Wangwe, Marian Keiytan, Martin Pepela, and Elsie Muhanda, echoed calls for unity and development-focused politics.

Cheruiyot defended the Ruto administration’s record, noting progress in healthcare enrollment under the Social Health Authority (SHA), affordable housing, and job creation for youth. “The broad-based government is now working across all political divides to promote development,” he said.

Several MPs urged residents to register as voters and acquire national IDs, while others lauded the Women Economic Empowerment program for boosting local savings groups and SACCOs.

The meeting reflected renewed efforts by Western leaders allied to the government to rally the community behind President Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.
