The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to reopen its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise on Monday, September 29, signaling the start of another nationwide push to strengthen Kenya’s democratic process.
The exercise will be launched at Mashuuru Primary School in Kajiado East constituency and will run across all constituency offices, except in areas preparing for by-elections. It provides citizens a chance to register as first-time voters, transfer their polling stations, or update personal details on the voter roll.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said the initiative is not only about numbers but also about ensuring inclusivity and transparency in elections. “This is an opportunity for every eligible Kenyan to make their voice count. Our message is particularly directed to the youth who have just turned 18 and are ready to participate in shaping Kenya’s future,” he said.
With the 2027 general election on the horizon, the commission has placed special emphasis on young voters, who make up a growing portion of the population but historically record lower turnout. Officials hope the CVR will energize civic engagement and help secure a credible register well ahead of polling season.
Available services during the drive include new voter registration, correction of personal information, transfer to different electoral areas, and verification of existing details.
