The Catholic church is challenging the government to be sincere enough in the fight against corruption in the country.
The church noted that the country is facing very complex times in the fight against corruption since no tangible gains since President William Ruto vowed to deal with the issue head-on, after he assumed office.
According to Mombasa Diocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva, corruption has tarnished the country’s image in the international community and the public eye as well with the Catholic Bishop calling for sincere and urgent action to tackle immense corruption in the country.
Kivuva said Kenyans lost hope with the manner in which leaders are squandering public resources yet condemning graft while some have triggered it.
“We are a country that is seen as very corrupt by the international community and Kenyans locally, which is true. However, when the President comes out crying about how corruption is economically distabilising our nation we wonder who will salvage us from such situation,” noted Kivuva.
Bishop Kivuva said the recent revelations by President Ruto that both parliaments, the National Assembly and the Senate were marred by corruption is in fact scaring, with the Bishop calling for decisive action against all those glutton leaders.
“We know when there is graft like it is the current situation in our country we don’t get quality services, our economy dwindles, unemployment index soars day by day, that is not the Kenya we want,” added Bishop Kivuva.
Though he lauded the recent fresh approach by President Ruto to name a multi-agency team to spearhead the fight against corruption, he said such move is not enough.
“What has the EACC been doing until we are in such state as a nation, witnessing graft in almost all the public and private institutions? Until we see positive results of the latest initiative by the President is when we will believe that indeed the fight against corruption in our country is taking a sincere course,” said Archbishop Martin Kivuva.
Recently, President William Ruto named a multi-agency team to fight corruption in the country.
The 10-state agency team that immediately swung into action includes the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), National Intelligence Service (NIS), Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) among others.
