Raila Odinga’s body arrived at his Opoda Farm home in Bondo on Saturday evening after final public viewing in Kisumu. Only close family and relatives will view the body tonight ahead of Sunday’s requiem mass and burial.
Bondo, Kenya, Oct, 18, 2025 – The body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga arrived at his rural home in Opoda Farm, Bondo, on Saturday evening, marking the final leg of his journey before burial on Sunday, October 19.
After an emotional viewing ceremony at Mamboleo Grounds in Kisumu that ended at around 3:30 p.m., the body was flown to Bondo aboard a Kenya Air Force helicopter. The aircraft touched down at Opoda Farm at approximately 4:15 p.m., where family members, close relatives, and neighbors received the casket in a solemn handover.
According to the burial committee chaired by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, there will be no public viewing in Bondo. The evening will be reserved for family and close associates to privately pay their last respects to the opposition leader, whose political and social legacy has shaped Kenya’s democratic journey for decades.
Hundreds of mourners have continued to flock to Raila’s Bondo home, with many gathering outside the expansive compound as wails and songs of tribute fill the air. Security officers and local volunteers have been working to manage the growing crowds ahead of Sunday’s funeral.
A night vigil is scheduled for Saturday night, while a requiem mass will be held on Sunday morning at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology grounds before the burial ceremony.
Raila Odinga, who passed away in India earlier this month, will be laid to rest at his Opoda Farm home beside his late son Fidel Odinga.
