The Standard Group owned Radio station Radio Maisha commands a greater number of audience countrywide despite having faced its fair share of tribulations in mid 2023.
The station saw its almost entire crew joining Cape Media owned new radio station, Radio 47.
Among the top Radio Maisha crew at that time who left includes morning show host Emmanuel Mwashumbe, News anchors Beatrice Maganga, Geoffrey Mung’ou and the evening pair Billy Mia and Mbaruk Mwalimu who bid farewell to Radio Maisha, to receive a warm welcome at Radio 47.
However, Radio managers at Standard Group did not waste a second but started scouting for new talents to make an urgent replacement, and that is how Solomon Zully landed at Radio Maisha.
At Radio Maisha, the most listened radio station countrywide according to recent polls, Mr Zully was embraced by Sugar Boy, who was left lonely by Mwashumbe.
With the zeal, dedication, research tactics and commanding voice that keep listeners glued to their radio sets in the morning, Zully would stabilise the Breakfast show Maisha Asubuhi, pairing well with Sugar Boy, and their meeting became a well planned or rather God’s plan.
The two developed a moving chemistry, broadcasting in insync manner with top level synergy that makes Radio Maisha topping the list of the most listened radio station in the country.
When it comes to serious business, where only serious matters are involved during the morning show, Zully and Sugar Boy will execute it in a way only the two can. When it comes to hosting guests during the Thursday’s Survivor Series, where extraordinary, inhuman and societal occurrences are laid bare, the duo would share the emotional tone, clearly considering the audience needs.
During Friday’s Maisha Concert show, Zully and Sugar Boy remain the face of the station as they playfully interview persons of interest in the music and entertainment industry, dancing and enjoying their time on air, which also translates to total unlimited entertainment to their vast audience who engage with them on air.
Seasoned
For the last 16 years, Zully has been the Coast household name when it comes to radio broadcasting. He sharpened his journalistic career and tactics hosting only serious programs where he developed interest in hosting Breakfast shows and other talk and news platforms in various regional radio stations.
The multi-talented deep voiced Zully, worked at a Coast based radio station Radio Salaam, before joining News, talk and entertainment radio station Sauti ya Pwani FM where he hosted the breakfast show Sauti Asubuhi and other talk and informative shows. He later followed what his heart wanted and he ditched the station, returning to the 24 hour talk and news station, Radio Salaam.
Zully, who has become a darling to many listeners across the country, together with his Co-host Sugar Boy (Ally Mwayogwe) joined an independent Mijikenda radio station, Radio Kaya in late 2022 where he hosted the breakfast show aired in Mjikenda language Voroni Enehu (Good morning Brothers and Sisters) together with a lady Co-presenter, Beatrice Dama Kahindi. He also played the News Editor and News anchor roles and hosted other live talk shows including a live agriculture and environment weekly show.
The young, talented, hardworking Zully ditched Radio Kaya and joined the leading national radio station that broadcast in a state of the art Swahili, Radio Maisha in mid 2023, a dream come true since he has been yearning to talk to the entire country through the microphone.
Hate him or love him, his fluency while laying facts bare and ensuring he does not give his vast audience half-baked information, entertainment, research results and emerging issues makes him at the top of the game.
With the stiff competition and dwindling space for traditional radio, the Radio Stars, Zully and Sugar Boy continue creating strong base, making strides and growing Radio Maisha brand making the national radio station a household name countrywide.
