A group of youth in Mombasa county has ventured into civic education through the art of storytelling.
The youth, led by Little Theatre Club Vice Chairperson, Collins Mangicho said they launched the efforts in April during the Sexual assault awareness month where they used the art of storytelling dubbed ‘Story telling by the fire side’ to impart critical information to the public.
Speaking during a ‘Storytelling by the fire side’ event held at the Little Theatre Club in Mombasa, Mr Mangicho revealed that apart from the sexual assault awareness, they will focus on more societal issues so as to ensure the information reach the grassroots level.
Mangicho added that the youth will be in action in all the six Sub counties of Kisauni, Nyali, Jomvu, Changamwe Likoni and Mvita, meeting the locals and creating awareness on gender and children rights, environment, security among other social issues.
“We want to expand this initiative to cover all the six Mombasa Sub counties, however, we do not have the required funds to fulfill our venture. We appeal to other partners, the Mombasa county government and the local administration to back up these efforts,” said Mangicho.
He added that the youth are also working on the venture to sustain their lives.
“We need resources to reach the very grassroots level communities and impart the right factual information to the communities around through our practical storytelling art. We are working towards achieving an informed strong safeguarded society around,” he noted.
The recent event conducted at the Little Theatre Club at Mbaraki, Mombasa was graced my Mombasa Senator Miraj Abdilahi.
Miraj appreciated the youth for the unique venture that apart from enabling the youth reach the communities with civic education through the art of storytelling, they will make strong gains of dissuading their peers from indulging in societal vices.
“I will back these efforts and work closely with these youth to enable them achieve their objectives of growing a strong informed society through their civic education agenda,” said the Nominated Senator.
