The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has vowed to lay things bare on the country’s poor leadership, stating that it is expressing what Kenyans are going through.
Recently during the launch of the Lenten campaign dubbed the ‘Kenya we desire’ that happened at the Mama Ngina Water Front in Mombasa county on Friday February 28, 2025, the Catholic Bishops through their Chair Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba of the Kisumu Metropolitan Archdiocese, said Kenyans have suffered the wrath of President William Ruto’s unfulfilled promises since he sailed to power.
The Catholic Bishop singled out the Social Health Authority (SHA) failures stating that SHA is good on paper but not practical.
“We want to see the government working and not advertising itself to Kenyans. Kenyans are tired and the President clearly knows what is currently going on in the country,” stated Bishop Muhatia.
His sentiments were seconded by KCCB Principal Administrator and Nyeri Archdiocese Archbishop, Most Rev. Anthony Muheria who said the Catholic Bishops only speak when there is need and they are doing it representing Kenyans not politicians.
“When we say SHA is not practical we are only stating the truth because we represent Kenyans and we do our due diligence before we come to the public. SHA has failed and Kenyans are suffering,” stated Bishop Muheria.
Meanwhile, Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has criticised the President for chiding the Catholic church Bishops.
“Mr President you have crossed the red line and we will not allow you tarnish the Catholic church and the names of our Bishops. You must do the right thing and stop the PR stunts,” said Musyoka.
Kalonzo went ahead, “Mr. Ruto, please tread carefully. It is not right to attack the Catholic Church because they gave back your Sh.5 million “donation”. It is shameful and you have crossed the red line,”
On Sunday while visiting the Jesus Winners Ministry Church in Roysambu, Nairobi, President William Ruto gave out Ksh.20 million rubbishing the Catholic church for rejecting his Ksh.5 million donation.
“In fact I will bring you another Ksh.100 million. Let the other bishops reject the donations,” stated President William Ruto.
However, Catholic Archbishop Philip Anyolo stated that the Catholic church is not a place where dirty monies will be dumped at the expense of suffering Kenyans.
