Ugandan police are searching for an Arsenal supporter who allegedly killed a Manchester United supporter by assaulting him.
According to reports, the dead and the suspect got into a fight during Sunday night’s Arsenal vs. Liverpool game, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The two were watching the Liverpool vs. Arsenal match in a video hall at Kyobugombe Trading Centre when the event occurred.
“When Liverpool scored an equalizer in the 81st minute, the Manchester United fan started jubilating, and this angered the Arsenal fan. He (Man U fan) threw popcorn at the Arsenal fan, sparking an argument between the two. After the game, the Arsenal fan picked a stick and hit the Manchester United fan, causing him to fall,” said Kaharo subcounty LCIII Chairperson Edmond Tumwesigye.
Tumwesigye claims that Benjamin Okello, the deceased, was taken to Bukinda Health Centre for treatment before being sent to Rugarama, where he passed away.
The culprit is still at large, according to Joseph Bakaleke, the District Police Commander (DPC).
“We have tried to encourage the relatives of the deceased to be calm as we continue to hunt for the other one who is alleged to have participated in the fight to explain what exactly happened, as well as get information from those who were present to aid investigations,” said DPC Bakaleke.
