Likoni, Mombasa, October 9, 2025 — Citizen TV Swahili news anchor and editor Mwanahamisi Hamadi, who has declared her bid for the Likoni parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections, is counting losses after her home in Kiteje, Likoni, was broken into on Wednesday night.

According to police, unknown individuals gained access to the house at around 8:00 p.m., escaping before guards or neighbours could respond. Officers from the Likoni Police Station have since launched investigations into the incident.

While residents and some of Hamadi’s supporters have linked the break-in to political intimidation, police have urged the public to avoid speculation until investigations are complete.

“We have opened a probe into the matter and are pursuing several leads. At this stage, we cannot attribute the incident to any political rivalry until investigations are concluded,” said a police officer familiar with the case.

Hamadi, who has been actively engaging Likoni residents as she builds her campaign ahead of 2027, said the incident will not deter her from her community work and political journey.

“I remain committed to working with my people in Likoni to find solutions to our daily challenges. Such incidents only strengthen my resolve to serve,” she said.

The Citizen TV journalist-turned-politician has recently been implementing several community initiatives, including programmes to empower youth and women, and a support drive for persons with disabilities where she distributed wheelchairs.

Hamadi is seeking to unseat incumbent Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, who is serving her second term in Parliament.

Police investigations are ongoing.
