Three top National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials have been arrested.
The three including the NCPB Managing Director Joseph Kiomote, the Officer in charge of Corporation John Ng’etich and Officer in charge of Marketing and Operations John Matiri were nabbed on Tuesday evening after a long day Board meeting with the Agriculture ministry officials led by the Principal Secretary Dr Paul Ronoh.
The meeting that started at around 11 am on Tuesday morning culminated with the arrest of the three NCPB top officials who are currently detained at undisclosed police station.
Kiomote, Ng’etich and Matiri will be arraigned in court to answer to charges in connection with the fake fertiliser fiasco that has led to losses to farmers who purchased soils and gravels instead of genuine fertiliser for their farms.
The critical Kenya Bureau of Standards cleared itself from the matter reiterating that it was not involved from the purchase, verification and distribution of the fake fertilisers to farmers.
Impeachment
The Law Society of Kenya and Legislatures have been calling for the resignation of the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi even as an impeachment motion find its way to the floor of the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has approved a motion by Bumula MP Jack Wanami Wamboka that pushes for the impeachment of the Agriculture CS.
The motion is expected to be debated in the Parliament on Thursday.
