The much hyped Mombasa’s 10th radio station, Swahilipot FM officially opens its doors on Monday morning.
The youthful urban radio station that broadcasts on 91.7, a single frequency that covers Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Malindi and Tana River. While in Taita Taveta and Lamu Counties, the station covers the areas on 91.5 and 91.9 frequencies respectively.
The station’s programming is pegged on the youth needs with both Swahili and English languages applied in specific programmes.
The youthful urban radio station is wholly owned by Swahilipot Foundation that emanates from a Technology, Art and Heritage Centre Swahilipot Hub that was initiated by a renowned youth Mentor Mahmoud Noor.
Mr Noor has had a special hearty connection with the youth even before the launch of Swahilipot Hub back in 2016 when he used to work for the Seacom. At Swahilipot FM, hundreds of youth developed and nurtured their talents and are now successfully earning from them after receiving the required training, guidance and mentorship they badly needed.
Most youth were enrolled at the Swahilipot Hub where they concentrated on developing their music and art talents while others ventured in the world of technology, making Swahilipot Hub a National and an International Icon within Mombasa County.
Most of the New radio station Presenters are yet to be revealed apart from the first Breakfast show Presenter Miriam Angil who will debut on Monday morning from 6-10 am at the Imaara building located radio station.
The station that targets the youthful generation plays modern music mix and will allow the audience to choose what they want to listen to in terms of entertainment.
“Kickstart your mornings with the very first show on SwahiliPot FM! Join Miriam Angil for ‘The Breakfast Show’ every weekday from 6 AM to 10 AM. Fresh music, vibrant discussions, and everything you need to start your day right,” a post from the station’s official Facebook page read.
It’s now officially that Mombasa has embraced its 10th radio station that no doubt will give the other Coast based radio stations tough times ahead, a run for their money!
The battle for the coastal audience has been among Mijikenda station Radio Kaya, Msenangu FM, Pwani FM, Baraka FM, Sauti ya Pwani FM, Mo Radio among others.
