At least six teenagers died in a tragic road accident along the Likoni-Lungalunga highway in the South Coast region.

The six youth were riding a motorbike bike at a very high speed from Dongo kundu flyover area in Likoni, heading towards Kombani area in Kwale County, along the Likoni-Lungalunga highway.

On reaching Mtakuja area in Denyenye, they hit the rare part of a canter which had developed mechanical problems and had been parked along the roadside.

Five of them died on the spot while the sixth one died while receiving medical treatment at a privately owned Diani Beach hospital.

“All of them were armed with pangas on their waists, a sign that they were from robbing people in Likoni or they were planning to execute robbery in some parts of Kwale County, most likely Kombani area along the Ukunda-Kwale junction,” said an eye witness.

Police confirmed that the six youth riding on a single motorcycle we from a night disco in Likoni area.

The accident occurred at around 1 am Sunday morning. Police have confirmed the deaths.

Matuga Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Lucy Ndemo confirmed the Sunday 1 am incident.

Reports indicate that two of the deceased are students from Ng’ombeni Secondary school, allegations that police are yet to substantiate.

Likoni area in Mombasa County and Kombani area within Kwale County have in the recent past witnessed a surge of criminal activities with residents blaming police for laxity.

It is alleged that most of the gang members operating in Likoni areas find their hideouts in Kwale County thus posing a major challenge in curtailing insecurity in the two counties.

Recently, mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Nur warned that anyone engaging in crime in Mombasa County will be dealt with.

“We have had a problem with Likoni Sub County but am assuring you that security agencies are on that area pursuing all the criminal gang members,” he told Mombasa residents.

Nur further urged parents to play their parenting roles seriously and guide their children to the right paths away from crime and drugs and substance abuse.

“We have been talking about parenting issue for so long. We must see progress or else these minors joining illegal outfits will perish yielding a major generation gap,” said the Administrator.
