The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party is currently conducting repeat grassroots elections in parts of Mombasa and Tana River counties, with the exercise reported to be proceeding smoothly and peacefully.
The repeat polls are being supervised by officials from the UDA National Elections Board (NEB), following technical hitches that affected the initial elections held on April 11 and 12 across 22 counties.
In Tana River County, NEB board member Jimmy Kahindi is overseeing the electoral process in the constituencies of Garsen, Bura, and Galole. The repeat elections in this region aim to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection of local party leadership, following complaints and logistical challenges during the earlier vote.

Meanwhile, in Mombasa County, NEB members Mary Mutinga and Halake Dida are coordinating the electoral activities in selected areas within Changamwe and Mvita constituencies. Several polling centres across Mombasa Island have been reopened to facilitate the repeat exercise. These include Bomu Secondary School in Port Reitz, Buxton Estate Hall in Tononoka, Koblenz Hall in Majengo, Serani Primary School in Mji wa Kale/Makadara, and the Kenya School of Government, also located in Mji wa Kale/Makadara.
The NEB assured party members and the public that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure a credible and orderly voting process. According to officials on the ground, voter turnout has been encouraging, with members expressing optimism about electing committed and visionary leaders to steer the party’s agenda at the grassroots level.

The UDA, which is the ruling party under President William Ruto’s administration, views the grassroots elections as a crucial step in strengthening internal democracy and reinforcing the party’s structures ahead of future national and regional political engagements.
The National Elections Board has reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, urging all party members to maintain peace and uphold democratic principles throughout the exercise.
