“We must remain united so that we fight for our rights as Seafarers and benefit from thousands of jobs in the country and overseas,” he once said at the Koblenz hall in Mombasa.
The union was slowly disintegrating following infight that was said to be politically instigated.

Amon those who mourned the late Haji are Kenya Maritime Authority Chairperson Hamisi Mwaguya who termed Haji as a true leader who advanced for the rights and welfare of Seafarers in the country.
“His activism in the maritime sector was unwaved, he worked wth government agencies to ensure seafarers in the country directly benefit from various opportunities from the maritime sector,” noted Mr Mwaguya.
Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Aharub Khatri who attended the burial too mourned the late Haji, saying he created firm base for seaferers to get the required documents to work in the country and overseas.
“We hope that the efforts Haji initiated in fighting for the recognition of the seafarers sector will not be shunned but the current leadership in charge continue the spirit, ensure unity and work with other relevant maritime agencies so that no opportunity is left untapped,” he said.
