Safaricom PLC on Wednesday hosted the fourth series of the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ targeting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the Coast region.
The forum held in Mombasa aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with knowledge that will enable them scale their businesses through technology.
Through its fourth series of the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ platform, Safaricom targets at promoting the digital transformation of enterprises to boost their competitiveness and drive the country’s economic prosperity.
The engagement forum gave the MSMEs an opportunity to exchange ideas on how they can leverage the digital technologies to enhance their market reach, streamline operations, and create a strong brand presence online.
According to the Kenya Institute of Public Policy, Research and Analysis, there are over 7.4 million MSMEs, employing approximately 14.9 million Kenyans in various sectors of the economy, generating 30% of the GDP.
“Despite the significant contribution MSMEs make to the country’s economy, they continue to face considerable challenges among them, inadequate knowledge and skills and rapid technology changes among others that hinder the growth of their businesses. At Safaricom, we believe in the power of technology and its potential to transform businesses, that is why we are hosting the Grow with Safaricom Business to empower MSMEs,” said Safaricom Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Cynthia Kropac,
As the global economy rapidly digitalises, it is estimated that 70 percent of new value created over the coming decade will be based on digitally enabled platform business models.
Launched in March, 2024, the Grow with Safaricom Business forum will provide ample networking opportunities for MSMEs to connect with peers, industry experts, and potential partners.

Speaking at the forum, Doreen Kwamboka who deals with clothes retail business said the forum comes at a critical time when she has been focusing on ways to reach the larger market through digital platforms.
Kwamboka said ‘Grow with Safaricom Business forum has been an eye opener for her to invest in reaching the larger market and expand her business so as to increase revenue.
“I have learnt a lot through this forum and what has been presented here by people already in business will aid my efforts in realising my dream of becoming an established clothes trader in the country,” said Kwamboka.

Safaricom in conducting the ‘Grow with Safaricom Business’ forums countrywide to enable MSMEs stabilise their businesses and leverage on technologies for their business growth, with the largest Telecom company promising a ‘walk together’ with the MSMEs so as to enable them successfully grow and earn from their businesses.
