KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Oct’ 30, 2025 — President William Ruto has declared that the 2027 General Election will be a one-sided contest, saying no opposition candidate poses a real challenge to his re-election bid.

Speaking during a development tour in Kakamega County, Ruto said the only politician who could have given him a tough race was the late Raila Odinga.

“There is no stiff competition in 2027. I will floor any opposition flagbearer who comes against me. The opposition is not my match — they have no agenda for Kenyans,” Ruto said.

The Head of State urged Western Kenya residents to rally behind his administration, promising accelerated development projects in infrastructure, roads, and the economy. He said his government is committed to uplifting the region’s economic fortunes and strengthening local enterprises.

Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya reaffirmed that the broad-based government remains united under the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also called on the Western region to fully back President Ruto in 2027, saying it is time for the Luhya community to speak with one voice.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli echoed the sentiment, vowing that the Luhya community will deliver 100 percent of its votes to Ruto in the next election.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi added that while the community did not meet its 30 percent voting target for Ruto in 2022, this time it will overwhelmingly support his re-election.

Ruto’s visit to Western Kenya comes amid renewed efforts by his allies to consolidate regional support ahead of the 2027 polls.
