President William Ruto on Sunday criticised political leaders for misleading the youth, urging them to guide the youth to the right path.
In what seemed as a direct attack to his predecessor, former President, Uhuru Kenyatta following his recent remarks where he urged the Gen-Z to stand up and fight for their rights, President Ruto said the youth only needed employment and opportunities.
“Let’s not lead the youth to violence and destruction. I urge political and religious leaders and all of us to enable youth secure livelihoods,” said President Ruto after he joined other leaders and locals for an Interdenominational prayers at Cheptais in Mount Elgon, Bungoma county.
“Let’s grow our youth. You will not get anything, neither will you benefit them by inciting them,” said President Ruto.
The President indirectly attacked his predecessor, former President Uhuru Kenyatta who in his recent remarks urged youth to stand firm and fight for what is theirs.
“Instead of inciting them to violence and confrontation, let’s help our youth get employment opportunities to benefit them,”
He mentioned opportunities in the ICT Hubs, Housing programs, County aggregation, Industrial parks and Labour and migration.
“My government has been and it will continue advancing for unity and inclusivity. My leadership will not discriminate against any region or communities on development agenda,” said President Ruto.
He cautioned against propagating hatred and divisive politics in the country.
Recently, former President Uhuru Kenyatta called on the youth to accelerate their fight for their rights.
“I urge you not to just sit back and cry that someone is taking away your right. Be strong and firm and fight for your rights,” said the former President.
He said most politicians are backing their efforts and youth in the country should not feel discriminated.
“We are behind you. Don’t feel that you are left alone in the fight. Fight for your space as youth of this country,” the former Head of state told the Gen-Z.
