The entertaining voice that has graced our radio sets for over 14 years at the Standard Group owned most listened radio station, Radio Maisha has finally ended.

Mwende who goes by the name ‘Queen of Airwaves’ on air announced her departure from Radio Maisha early last week, however, she assured her fans countrywide that the entertainment will be unlimited as she will soon be back on air at a different home.

She did not disclose her immediate home despite her vast fans hinting that the ‘Queen of Airwaves’ might be joing Cape Media Limited owned radio station, Radio 47. Some of her followers on her social media platforms were in fact welcoming her at Radio 47, but she remained mum about the subject.

Radio 47 almost lamed Radio Maisha after raiding it, making away with top presenters, editors and producers.

Among the top presenters who ditched Radio Maisha by then were the evening drive pair Billy Mia and Mbaruk Mwalimu.

Mwende started her broadcasting career at the once top radio station in Coast region Sheki FM owned by the late Tony Msalame, before it collapsed and was bought by SDA Church to become a Gospel radio station.

The first raid that saw almost the entire independent Mijikenda radio station Radio Kaya presenters poached by S.K Macharia to join Royal Media Service owned Bahari FM, and the second raid that also saw the second Radio Kaya team landing at the once vibrant Mombasa urban station Baraka FM, created a  unique chance for Mwende to replace Nzula Makosi back in 2010.

Nzula has just joined Baraka FM where things fell apart and she could not last where she moved to Milele FM and later the collapsed Switch TV.

Mwende’s soothing voice did not last at Radio Kaya and barely six months, Standard Group launched it’s first national Radio station Radio Maisha and poached Mwende to host the youthful afternoon show ‘The Connect’.

The show has been rebranded to Maisha 254 which will now be hosted by Dj Clemmo 254.

Mwende posted a touching message to her fans on her social media handles;

“I hereby wish to announce my departure from Radio Maisha and Standard Group at large effective immediately. I would like to thank the Standard Group management for the opportunity to grow my career as well as my brand for the last 14 years,”

The Queen of Airwaves’ carried on “Most importantly I would like to extend my gratitude to my fans all over the country and beyond for holding down the Queen. You guys are the best and I really do appreciate you,”

She finalised,  “With that said, I can not wait to share with you my next home so that I can continue doing what I do best. Am beyond thrilled already. Team Queen let’s get informed, let’s get into the rhythm, mkoko ndio umealika maua. I wish my colleagues at Radio Maisha all the best. Keep it here for all my updates. Thank you and God bless you, Queen,”
