Mwahoka Mtsumi has for decades graced radio news desk, articulating accounts of various events in the Coast region, national and globally.

With over 15 years experience in the radio broadcasting industry, Mr Mtsumi chose a specific lane of news gathering, editing and disseminating.

He would later diversify to radio production feature writing and podcasts.

His most recent roles at Radio Kaya were heading the news department, playing various editing roles, hosting two Swahili talk shows Fataki ya ukweli (that discussed politics and current affairs) and Fahamu Sheria (a platform where he hosted lawyers to discuss legal matters, the constitution and human rights) the show aired every Monday from 8-9 pm.

Mwahoka Mtsumi, a big name in the Coast radio industry sharpened his journalism career at Sifa FM in Voi, Taita Taveta more that 15 years ago before joining a news and talk radio station, Radio Salaam where he only delved on news and talk shows.

After gaining adequate experience on news, talk and current affairs issues and handling serious interviews, Mwahoka jumped off the Coast based Islamic radio station and joined Kwale based independent Mijikenda radio station, Radio Kaya.

He started off as a Mombasa based News and features reporter operating at the station’s Mombasa bureau which was the Radio Kaya’s central newsroom. He was later moved to Kwale as a news editor and anchor.

However, following past mass exodus at the station, Mwahoka Mtsumi would later climb the ladder and manage the entire news department. He played all the roles at Radio Kaya Newsroom and he worked with his colleague Mimuh Mohammed who is still at Radio Kaya.

However, the slim deep-voiced News editor and presenter at Radio Kaya threw a surprise exit on December 31st, 2024, with most of his colleagues in the News department unaware of his next destination.

On Monday, January, 6, 2025 in the afternoon, the seasoned journalist, Editor, News anchor, Show host and Producer surprised his fans and former workmates after the unique composed calculated voice once again traversed the coastal airwaves again, however now on 98.9 Coco FM, a Kilifi based radio station.

No doubt the tough match has had a looser and a winner. Mwahoka remains an icon to reckon when it comes to news gathering, packaging and dissemination.

The experienced journalist has also acquired managerial skills, analysing news content and ensuring the audiences remain updated and gender aspect fully respected in all news and program content.

The Kilifi based Coco FM has shaken the Coast media industry raiding both national and Coast regional radio stations, picking top talents among them Sister Shirneez, Kalambua, Kassim Mbui, PPO, Joseph Marwa, Anita Santuri, Joseph Jira among others.
