President William Ruto, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday visited Ida Odinga at her Karen home to condole with her following the death of her husband, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Nairobi, Kenya – October 15, 2025- President William Ruto on Wednesday afternoon led senior government officials to the Karen home of Mama Ida Odinga to convey condolences following the death of her husband, former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
The Head of State was accompanied by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, among other senior government leaders.
The visit came hours after news broke that Raila Odinga had died while undergoing treatment at an Ayurvedic wellness centre in Kerala, India.
Sources at the residence said the leaders met the Odinga family privately, offering words of comfort and solidarity during the difficult moment.
ODM officials, close relatives, and long-time political allies of the late statesman were also present at the Karen home.
While no official government statement has been released so far, the visit by the President and his top aides underscores the magnitude of the loss and Odinga’s towering influence on Kenya’s political landscape.
Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013, passed away at the age of 80. His body is expected to be repatriated from India once formal arrangements are completed.
Funeral and national mourning details are expected to be announced once consultations between the family, ODM, and the government are concluded.
