Police in Mombasa and Kilifi counties have arrested three people suspected to have been minting money from innocent locals pretending to be Kenya Power staff.
The three John Kirimi, Kennedy Mwanyumba and Kyalo Mutisya were nabbed at Kizingo area along the Mombasa-Malindi road driving on a KDE 522J Mazda Demio, after various reports were made at Kilifi police station, locals complaining of losing money to unscrupulous alleged Kenya Power staff.
Police say the three will be detained at the Central Police Station in Mombasa before they are arraigned at the Kilifi court on Tuesday.
However, police are seeking three working days to conduct further investigations following numerous complaints of fraud from the public.
The emergence of ‘fake’ Kenya power staff is witnessed in Mombasa and Kilifi counties where police say they have been receiving massive complaints from the public over people who claim to be Kenya Power staff and swindle locals some money.
Recently, Kenya Power Coast Regional Manager Phineas Marete warned that anyone masquerading as Kenya Power staff will be dealt with.
“Any Kenya Power staff who will collude with other criminals and extort money from coastal people will lose their jobs,” he cautioned.
