Detectives from Inuka police station in Likoni, Mombasa county on Wednesday night arrested a suspected criminal known as Juma Omar.
The 23-year old Omar famously known as Jay Jay, is said to be behind a series of criminal activities in the area, sending Likoni residents into panic.
Police official incharge of Inuka police station Jesse Okiru said Omar is in charge of a machete-wielding dangerous criminal gang known as ‘Waasi’ (rebels) who have caused a nightmare to Likoni dwellers.
According to Mr Okiru, the six had around 2 am Thursday staged various criminal activities at Dudus area, targeting residents who were heading home from different entertainment joints for Christmas festivities.
They robbed them of their valuables including mobile phones and cash before they were accosted by security officials from Shelly beach police station.
The 23-year old was arrested after a hot pursuit, as the other gang members escaped.
Police recovered a panga and a shirt from one of the suspect.
Juma is believed to be the brain behind a series of criminal activities in different parts of Likoni Sub County.
Okiru has appealed to residents to flock Inuka police station to assist police in their investigations and prosecution of the suspect.

They are still under police detention awaiting court arraignment.
