Several leaders from the opposition were on Sunday injured after their convoy was attacked at Ngonda shopping Centre in Murang’a County.

Youth groups who teamed up with police officers attacked the politicians, with police officers hurling teargas canisters at the politicians.

In his statement from the United States where he has been touring for the fourth week now, DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua blamed President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for plotting the fracas.

“The police and the youth were clearly seen beating people and our leaders who were peaceful and from attending a church service. This is so barbaric and shameful,” noted Gachagua.

The former Deputy President said Kenyans will not remain mum as the “barbaric and dictatorial leadership takes centre stage.

“You harm innocent people and cause violence against the very soul of our nation, which is our constitution. Mr. William Ruto, read the preamble of our Constitution. In any case, you never supported its passing in 2010, and you have never changed your position, but Kenya has gone on,” he added.

Gachagua directly blamed President William Ruto stating that he is behind the commotion since he has sensed defeat.

“Mr. William Ruto, what do you gain through deaths and bloodshed? How do you go to church, reconcile your conscience at the Holy Alter while you instruct your police and goons to kill Kenyans in the same neighborhood? For how long will you repress the people of Kenya and mutilate our constitution? Do you think Kenyans will love you by force and intimidation?” Gachagua posed.

Gachagua carried on, “Africa saw many dictators, including Mobutu SeSe Seko, Kamuzu Banda, Idi Amin Dada, Charles Taylor, General Sani Abacha, and many others whose ranks you have now joined. But Kenya is not in the league of either the times of those leaders, nor are Kenyans,”

Gachagua blamed Ruto for ordering a disruption of a public forum in Murang’a where goons and police officers dispersed the gathered crowd.

Gachagua called for immediate arrest of all goons and police officers involved in the violence meted against opposition leaders. Reiterating that justice has to be served.

“Police officers who appeared to be under very clear instructions have attacked us at Ngonda, Kigumo constituency and used live ammunition on my vehicle forcing us to escape by foot. No amount of violence and police brutality shall change our resolve to send President William Ruto home come August, 2027,” said Nyandarua Senator, John Methu.
