Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has warned the youthful generation against being used to plunge the country into chaos.

Ali who was addressing journalists in Mombasa on Wednesday warned that the protests have gone out of the Generation Zero (Gen-Z) status to armed criminal gangs who are aiming at looting and destroying property in the name of protesting.

While accompanied by religious leaders from Mombasa county, the Lawmaker noted with concerns that the protests were about the Finance Bill 2024, which was dropped by President William Ruto, who invited various stakeholders and representatives for a multi-sectoral national dialogue to chat the way forward for the country.

“What are these protests all about? Why did a section of youth staged some protests on Tuesday yet the President had opened his arms for constructive multi-sectoral dialogue?” posed Ali.

He noted that the protests were spearheaded by hooligans who apart from looting from business establishments in various parts of the country including Mombasa, they also robbed individuals they met in the streets, mostly in Mombasa.

“When you invade someone’s business, steal valuables, beat them up and leave them without anything, that is a visionless, baseless and objective-less protest. Let the government pursue those behind these unwarranted acts of shame and punish them,” he said.

Ali raised concerns that the country may plunge into anarchy and send Kenyans to a hopeless state.

“I have been to Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan among other country’s that you have heard about them. Peace is very expensive in any country when you lose it. Please Kenyans and especially our youth desist from being used to cause chaos,” he said.

Punish

The Lawmaker, appealed to security agencies to pursue the criminal gangs who are now using the Gen-Z protests to terrorise locals in Mombasa and other parts of the country.

He said in the Coast region, only Mombasa is experiencing such panic mode with traders forced to guard or close their businesses early to avoid the criminal gangs.

The MP vowed to traverse the Coast region to preach peace and unity, and he further urged youth to cease the protests and engage their leaders and the President in a proper well calculated manner, so that they achieve their goals.

Already the Gen-Zs have distanced themselves with yesterday protests countrywide.

They said they were not responsible for the destruction of property or terrorising locals and for the few who went ahead to demonstrate left the streets early and never caused any tension in their respective places.

Five cars were reduced to ashes in Mombasa, one belonging to Mombasa County Senator Mohammed Faki, an ODM Senator, after rowdy youth set the cars a blaze after breaking into Caffee Point restaurant along Nyerere avenue in Mombasa.

The owner of the restaurant shot the protesters saying they were planning to break into his premises.
