The National Transport & Safety Authority (NTSA) has began testing the digital speed notification system, which alerts overspeeding motorists of their offence via SMS.

The system, in its initial stages, will be used to digitally identify drivers cruising past recommended speeds on various roads and highways across the country.

In Nairobi, the system is already in test along the Red Hill link road, the Southern Bypass, and the Northern Bypass, with multiple motorists on Wednesday receiving an alert for over speeding on the aforementioned roads.

An attached SMS is a sample communication a motorist will receive once a speed camera captures them driving above the set limit for a particular road. It contains details such as the vehicle owner’s name, vehicle registration, actual driving speed at the time of being captured by the speed camera, the time and date, captured and the road or highway which the motorist was driving along.
