The nationwide anti-abductions protests is set to resume on Monday 6, 2025 according to activists and Kenyans in other parts of the country.
According to a letter written by ‘Kenyans Against Abductions’ and which was copied to the Mombasa County Commissioner, Mohamed Nur, Central Police station OCPD, OCS Central Police station in Mombasa and to the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Kenyans Against Abductions say the protesters will converge at Uhuru gardens along Moi Avenue on Monday, 9 am and by 9:30 am the peaceful procession will have kicked off.
The Kenyans Against Abductions will move through Fontanella round about, proceed along Nyerere Avenue to Pandya hospital roundabout then through to urban police station round about.
“We will pitch camp at the Mombasa law court before proceeding to the Uhuru na Kazi building where we will hand over our demands to the County Commissioner, Mohamed Nur,” read part of the letter.
The OCS Central Police station and IPOA have acknowledged the receipt of the notification, with the Kenyans Against Abductions reiterating that they will fearlessly demand the release of the youth abducted for criticising President William Ruto’s government.
The recent protests saw human rights defenders arrested and charged.
23 activists including Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah were arrested in Nairobi and were later released on a Ksh.1000 cash bail each, while other 13 human rights defenders were arrested in Mombasa and were later released on a Ksh.5000 cash bail each by a Mombasa court.
The activists led by Vocal Africa CEO Hussein Khalid and Haki Africa Rapid Response Officer Mathias Shipetta vowed to press on until the government releases those abducted.
“We will relentlessly press on until the government releases the youth. We will criticise Ruto’s government and none of us will bow down to threats,” said Mr Khalid.
The human rights defenders are demanding the release of youth activists Billy Mwangi, Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti, Ronny Kiplang’at and his brother Gideon Kibet alias Kibet Bull, Steve Mbisi among others.
Kenya National Commission on Human Rights ((KNCHR) has put the number of those abducted since June during the Gen-Z protests to 82.
