Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi has rubbished efforts by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir to clinch the ODM Deputy Party Leader position.

Mwinyi said Nassir is not politically fit for the Deputy Party Leader position since he has failed in his various political mandates within his capacity.

Addressing locals in his Changamwe Constituency, Mwinyi says that Nassir has created a gap between himself and his colleagues in ODM party and cannot be entrusted to such top position in the party.

Mwinyi added that a person at high position such as Deputy Party Leader is highly valued as one who can make strong political decisions for the benefit of the party supporters at the very grassroots level, a task that according to the Lawmaker, Nassir cannot satisfactorily perform.

“Please do not misquote me I don’t hate the Governor but I am authoritatively stating that Nassir is unfit for ODM Party Leader position, he has not depicted any capabilities and political seriousness especially in serious political decisions in the party top leadership,” said the Legislature.

Mwinyi further said Nassir has hugely failed in executing his mandate as Mombasa Governor both politically and development wise, discriminating some areas within Mombasa County.

“If such a person cannot diligently serve Mombasa residents, will he be able to execute very high political assignments and accelerate the strength of the party up to the greassroots level?” posed Mwinyi.

He appealed to the Party Leader, Raila Odinga not to be duped by leaders like Nassir so that he throw them the Deputy Party Leader position.

“This time round we will be very much alert and we will not allow some people to deceive our Party Leader so that they get top positions which they cannot properly manage. Some people should not be greedy of leadership since these positions come with huge responsibilities and accountability demands,” he added.

However, Jomvu MP Badi Twalib defended Nassir, saying the Governor is the fine replacement for Ali Hassan Joho who together with his counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya were nominated by President William to join Kenya Kwanza Government.

Joho was nominated to head the Mining docket while Oparanya the Cooperatives. Both were ODM Deputy Party leaders.

Nassir has been fronted by Mombasa ODM suppoters to take the mantle from Joho, however, Kilifi ODM supporters say their Governor, Gideon Mung’aro is the right person to deputise Raila Odinga in advancing ODM Party matters.
