Despite calls from a section of ODM Leaders and supporters that Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir is not fit for the Party’s Deputy leader position, the party has singled out Nassir as suitable replacement for the vacant political position.

If approved Nassir will replace former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, who has officially taken over the Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs docket in President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Government.

Nassir was recently thrashed by a section of ODM supporters who said the Governor does not hold any serious political history to get to the helm of the ODM Party.

According to Changamwe ODM MP Omar Mwinyi, Nassir cannot unite Party members and discuss any serious matters revolving around politics and should not be given such top demanding roles.

“Nassir is a person who cannot even call the local ODM leaders in Mombasa and execute political discussions or strategy, how can he advance any serious political and development matters in the party,” posed Mwinyi.

However, the Mombasa county Chief said he will not engage in the war of words with his opponents within ODM Party.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna also proposed to the Party’s NEC the appointment of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga as Party Chairperson, Simba Arati and Geoffrey Osotsi as Deputy Party Leaders.

If they are approved they will replace those who were appointed to take the roles of cabinet secretaries.

ODM Chairperson John Mbadi was appointed for the Treasury docket, Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya both being ODM Deputy Party Chairpersons were appointed as Mining and Cooperatives Cabinet Secretaries.

They officially took their roles on Friday after being sworn in on Thursday at Statehouse, Nairobi.
