Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has strongly refuted claims that she is hospitalised at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, a renowned cancer treatment center, over kidney failure.

Karanja stated that the news is being propagated by her political opponents and none of Kenyans should believe in such malicious and fabricated information.

In her quick rejoinder after reports indicated that the business woman and entrepreneur is battling kidney related disease and in critical condition, The Senator stated that she is healthy and is not suffering from any disease.

“As you are aware, the Senate is currently on a short recess, which began on April 18th and will end on May 5th, 2025. I have taken this opportunity to step away from my busy schedule for a brief vacation here in London. I am in excellent health, full of energy, and fully prepared to resume my oversight duties next week. I thank God I am not sick, I am not in hospital, and I have not been hospitalised,”

She carried on, “These are fake news being spread by paid bloggers and social media influencers—unfortunately, some of whom are being financed by officials within the County government using public resources. These funds should instead be channelled towards meaningful development for our people. I strongly urge these individuals to stop spreading misinformation. Such baseless and unfounded rumours have caused unnecessary concern and panic among the people of Nakuru County,” read part of her statement.

Political battle

Karanja and her Governor Susan Kihika have been at logger heads with one accusing the other of not properly handling county matters as required by the law.

During Governor Kihika’s absence where she travelled to the US to give birth to her twins, Senator Karanja accused her of not handing over county responsibilities to her deputy, thus sending the county to a standstill.

“In short, the County government is at a standstill as we speak. Our major concern is that there were serious issues left behind, including, among others, the reopening of the War Memorial Hospital, which the court ordered to be reopened last year, yet up to now, it has not been opened,” Karanja said.

Accountability

She further assured Nakuru county residents that she will execute her constitutional responsibilities of oversight and accountability.

“No amount of intimidation will deter me from executing my roles in oversight, representation, and legislation. I also take this opportunity to strongly condemn those who wish others terminal illness for political gain. Such acts are inhumane, deeply saddening, and have no place in a civilised society,” she further stated.

during her interview with a vernacular radio station in Nakuru county on Thursday evening, Nakuru Governor, Susan Kihika stated that her senator, Tabitha Karanja is hospitalised in London.

“I wish her quick recovery. However, I know she has raised various issues because I understand what she wants in 2027,” revealed Governor Kihika.
