A Nakuru based journalist attached to the Mediamax Limited is nursing serious gunshot wound at the Valley Hospital in Nakuru after she was shot by police during Tuesday’s Gen-Z protests.
Ms Catherine Kariuki Wanjeri was on duty covering the protests together with her colleagues from other media houses before police battling the protesters using live bullets shot at Wanjeri seriously injuring her on the thigh.
Wanjeri, reports for K24 TV, Kameme TV and Kameme FM from Nakuru County and its environs.
She was helped by her colleagues and a Good Samaritan who rushed her to the Valley Hospital in Nakuru where the journalists are waiting for comprehensive doctor’s reports on her status.
Wanjeri is also the Organising Secretary, Nakuru Journalists Association (NJA).
The Nakuru based journalist body condemned the police for shooting a journalist who was executing her assignments.
“It is with great concern that we address the recent incident where police have once again inflicted terror on journalists. This time, one of our members the Organising Secretary and Kameme FM/TV reporter Catherine Kariuki Wanjeri was host and injured,” read part of Nakuru Journalists Association statement.
“We condemn such violence against journalists and we demand that the government and the police take immediate action against the rogue police officer involved. We will not relent in our pursuit for justice,” continued the statement.
The journalists appreciated the Good Samaritan who helped them rush their colleague to hospital for urgent treatment.
